	fer upon you the highest honor
	that can be bestowed upon any
	of our islands.“ It goes on
	to state that the taupou of
	the group of islands to whih
	they belong has died, and the
	supereme chief to whom they are
	all subjet has decreed that
	Reri, on acount of her beauty,
	the charm of her dancing, etc.,
	has been chosen in her place.
	The high chief trusts that the
	village is sensible of the honor
	that has come to them, and that
	this selection will add im-
	measurably to its name and
	glory. We cut from the letter to
