Action
[Interior of Matahi‘s hut. Sur-
rounded by women and children and
onlookers, apparently in a faint,
there is Reri on her mat. The
women minister to her. One of them
pours water over her. Into the
shot runs Matahi, out of breath,
plainly worried to death. He
kneels down close to Reri. He
takes her from the mat into his
lap and with one gesture sends
the people out. The people go out,
stepping backwards, still staring
curiously. They stand this way
outside the door. Matahi tenderly
puts his hand into a bowl of water
and puts it on Reri‘s forehead.
He bends close over her as though
calling her.]
